News from the Baltimore County Office of Tourism: The State Designated Horses and Hounds Scenic Byway in Baltimore County recently received new, larger signs along the roadway indicating the 70-mile route through northern Baltimore and Harford counties. Since Colonial times, foxhunters have swept across these rolling, grassy fields in a colorful pageant of horses, hounds, and “hill toppers,” who prefer to watch and ride at a slower pace.
This rural driving route showcases much of Baltimore County’s agricultural bounty, including wineries, microbreweries, farms (some with stands offering seasonal fresh produce), historic sites, State Parks, and scenic views of historic farms, including Sagamore Farm. Horses and Hounds begins in Cockeysville to Shawan Road, through Tufton Avenue along Worthington Road towards Reisterstown and then winds east through the scenic and historic landscapes of My Lady’s Manor, Long Green Valley, Cromwell Valley, and ends at the Hampton National Historic Site.
